Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia - Male Breast Aesthetics

Like in females, males can also have breast tissue, and in some cases, this tissue may be more than necessary. This condition is medically referred to as "gynecomastia." Gynecomastia can be observed during adolescence and in later years. The change in breast tissue during adolescence is hormone-related and can resolve as hormone levels return to normal at the end of adolescence. In later years, a decrease in the level of male hormones or an increase in weight can lead to an increase in volume in the fat tissue and mammary glands in the breasts. If gynecomastia is caused by the enlargement of mammary glands, the excess tissue is removed. For gynecomastia resulting from an increase in fat tissue, liposuction can be performed to remove fat.

The operation performed solely with liposuction takes about 1 hour under general anesthesia, and the patient is discharged on the same day. In our clinic, the Vaser liposuction technique is applied. If there is excess fat tissue and skin, surgical intervention takes about 1.5 hours under general anesthesia, and an overnight stay in the hospital is necessary. A follow-up examination can be conducted on the 7th day, and there may be mild pain in the early period, but it generally subsides comfortably with the provided pain relievers. Swelling that occurs in the early period will decrease over time. It is recommended to use a bandage for 1 week, and social life can typically be resumed within 2-3 days.
